LILONGWE-(MaraviPost)—At least over 3000 people affected by recent flash floods in Nkhotakota District have received emergency food assistance while 300 households have been provided with plastic sheets, following a humanitarian outreach by Salvation for All Ministries International (SFAMI).

The relief exercise was conducted through SFAMI’s Hope Field Initiative under the leadership of Apostle Clifford Kawinga.

The initiative aims to ease the suffering of families whose homes and livelihoods were destroyed by the floods.

Speaking during the launch of the outreach, Apostle Kawinga said the intervention is targeting some of the hardest-hit in Traditional Authority (T.A) Mwadzama, including Group Village Head Fusani at Mtondo Ground and Bango Village at Mkaika Primary School Ground.

He explained that the initiative goes beyond material support by also offering spiritual encouragement to affected families.

“This intervention combines practical help with prayer, as we believe that God is the ultimate source of restoration and hope, especially in times of crisis,” said Kawinga.

Alongside the distribution of maize and plastic sheets, SFAMI clergy and volunteers led prayers for healing, strength, and recovery among the affected communities.

Receiving the donation, a representative of Chief Mwadzama, Senior Group Village Head Gumbwe, welcomed the intervention, describing it as timely support that addresses both immediate physical needs and emotional well-being in the aftermath of the disaster.

One of the beneficiaries, Kamuzi Sentilawo expressed gratitude to the area’s Member of Parliament (MP) Skeffa Chimoto for helping to mobilize the community to receive the relief items from the SFAMI project.

SFAMI said the outreach reflects its continued commitment to stand with vulnerable communities during emergencies, demonstrating compassion, solidarity and faith in action.

Meanwhile, a Department of Disaster Management Affairs (DoDMA) representative for the area, George Mpinganjila said Nkhotakota has been severely affected by floods this year compared to last year.

Mpinganjila revealed that nearly 2,000 houses have been destroyed adding that authorities are currently searching for suitable relocation sites for the displaced families.
