Beat The Heat At The City’s Public Swimming Pool

With Olympic-sized lanes and kid-friendly amenities, you’re bound to find a pool to make a splash in the Mother City.

Here are some of our favourite pools, scattered throughout the city:

Long Street Indoor Swimming Pool

Visit the original 1908 bathhouse in Long Street. Swim a few laps in the 25m heated pool or relax in the soothing sauna and steam rooms. Kids can also enjoy hours of fun in the 12m long splash pool. The facility is open for ladies every Tuesday from 10am to 2pm or 10am to 1pm during the school holidays. Take a dip, unwind, and have some fun in a comfortable, ladies-only space. If a public holiday falls on a Tuesday, the pool is open to everyone.

Newlands Pool

Newlands Pool is ideal for families, fitness fans, and anyone who loves being in the water. It’s known for safe swimming, picnics, sports, and exercise, with lifeguards always on duty.

Mnandi Swimming Pool

Located opposite Mnandi Beach Resort, this family-friendly pool reopens for the festive season – 2025! With activities for all ages and a lively atmosphere, you may find yourself spending a few hours here.

Muizenberg Swimming Pool

At Muizenberg Pools, open all year round, swim in the 22m main pool while the kiddos can splash about in the 5m pool. Zoom down thrilling waterslides, or kick back as sunbathers lounge along the grassy embankments.

Sea Point Swimming Pool

Sea Point Pavilion Swimming Pool has been a favourite destination for locals and travellers since the 1950s. The pools are built along the Atlantic Ocean, perfect for those scenic sunrise (or sunset) swims. The Pavilion pools seamlessly blend fitness, leisure, and seaside beauty. Very popular on public holidays so get there early.

Location: Sea Point Pavilion, Lower Beach Road, Sea Point

Entrance Fee: R37,50 for adults, R22 for children, and free for pensioners

Observatory Swimming Pool

This family-friendly public pool in Cape Town is a favourite with locals, who are always happy to stop for a chat. That, coupled with many amenities and a warm atmosphere, makes it a bucket list city adventure.

Strand Indoor Swimming Pool

Just a short stroll from the beach, the Strand Indoor Pool is where you can swim all year round. Take a dip in the heated indoor pool or let the little ones splash about in the kiddies’

pool. When it’s time for a break, relax in the seating area and enjoy a snack before heading back for another lap.

In the Cape Town summer heat, Khayelitsha Swimming Pool is a welcome escape, where people can cool off, splash around, and even play a friendly game or two in the water.

Beat the heat at Trafalgar Swimming Pool in Woodstock before exploring the area’s colourful street art or sipping a sundowner at one of the local breweries. Or you could make a day of it and plan a picnic with your friends. The pool is kid-friendly, with amenities to keep little ones entertained. It’s safe for swimming, with lifeguards on duty.
