The Investigator Magazine has learned that fugitive Paul Mphwiyo, accused of masterminding the 2013 cashgate scandal, has been hiding in plain sight in Malawi.

Contrary to claims by the Malawi Police Service that they are still searching for Mphwiyo, sources close to The Investigator Magazine have confirmed that the fugitive has been meeting with friends and family in the country.

Mphwiyo bolted in June 2023 as the High Court was set to deliver a ruling on a case he was involved in.

His sudden disappearance sparked a nationwide manhunt, with the police claiming that they were doing everything in their power to apprehend him.

However, it now appears that Mphwiyo has been hiding in the shadows, enjoying the protection of influential individuals.

According to sources, Mphwiyo has been staying with an advisor to President Lazarus Chakwera at Chitipi along Mchinji road.

But that’s not all – Mphwiyo’s company, East Bridge Estates, has also hit the jackpot, securing a lucrative deal with the Malawi Government worth a staggering K33 billion.

The payment was made in the past few weeks, sources have revealed.

The revelations have raised questions about the level of corruption and impunity in Malawi, where those with connections to the powers that be seem to be above the law.
