LILONGWE-(MaraviPost)-On Wednesday afternoon, President Lazarus Chakwera called for the elimination of economic equality and the implementation of inclusive geo-politics, in order for democracy to truly prevail.

Chakwera made the remarks when he delivered a virtual statement during The Third Summit for Democracy, which is being held in the Republic Of Korea.

The President insisted that we need to “show up” for the young people of the world” by increasing access to resources and facilitating freedom of movement.

He however maintained that inequality is an obstacle that must be overcome.

President Chakwera bemoaned the barriers to development that young people face particularly in the developing world, in terms of access to resources in each other’s countries, despite the digital expansion that is taking place globally.

Chakwera also pointed out that Africa in particular, is subject to a lack of inclusion, and further interrogated how the world as a whole can and should build more inclusive societies, that can significantly empower the youth, thereby taking steps towards closing the socio-economic gaps.

The summit, a third of its kind, this year focussed on empowering the youth with its theme, “Democracy for Future Generations” and involved at least nine participating countries including the chair nation Denmark, Spain, Paraguay, Iraq, Nepal, Latvia, Sweden and Malawi.

In her remarks the Prime Minister of Denmark (who is the chairing country), Mette Frederiksen, opened the floor by stating that democracy is an “ongoing conversation” and that the world at large can only win of all nations stand together.

Kenyan President William Ruto, in his statement commended the Republic of Korea for holding the summit stating that it will accord the participation countries and others to implement rule of law and good governance another other tenets of democracy.
