LILONGWE-(MaraviPost)-The Association of Persons with Albinism in Malawi (APAM) is expressing concerns over resumption of spate attacks on its members amid security lapsing.
The association told the joint news conference in the capital Lilongwe on Thursday, December 17, 2021 that abduction, killings and exhumation refuse to died.
The albino body jointly with Catholic Commission for Justice and Peace (CCJP), Malawi Human Rights Resource Centre (MHRRC) and Centre Human Right Rehabilitation (CHRR) held the press briefing to raise alarm on its members just a year President Lazarus Chakwera was put into power.
APAM cited the recent grave tampering at a grave yard of its deceased members Katiwelo Samson and James Kanyama in central district of Ntchisi.
Young Muhamba, APAM President observes that person with albinism in Malawi continues to suffer systematic and grave human rights abuses, violations and manifest discrimination, stigma and stereotypes and among others.
Muhamba added that its members continues to be victims of myths, disinformation,misinformation and speculation that need to be addressed decisively.
He therefore dared Chakwera’s Tonse government to use the 2018-2022 national action plan in place to swiftly address critical issues for its members including essential health package commodity, social protection programs, expediting court cases.
