Challenger to Nyamilandu’s rule Wilkins Mijiga has bold initiatives to revive grassroots soccer

Wilkins Mijiga, one of the presidential candidates for Football Association of Malawi (FAM) elections has launched well compacted manifesto which intends to revive grassroots football and financial independence towards FAM’s secretarial operations.

Mijiga unveiled the much awaited manifesto just a week to go before the country FA’s elections slated for December 12, 2015 at Nkopola lodge in the eastern district of Mangochi.

 

The Presidential hopeful Mijiga is expected to battle out in the much contested elections against the incumbent Walter Nyamilandu and Willy Yambwanya Phiri.

Addressing the news conference on evening, Thursday, December 3, in the capital Lilongwe, Mijiga the banker pledged to revive football from grass root through enhancement of numerous training programs with Malawi School Sports Association (MASSA).

With the motto titled, “reforming Malawi football into a viable, vibrant and sustainable industry”, Mijiga plans to revive FAM’s secretarial financial independence whereby all money transactions will be put to the general public for scrutiny in its economic prudence.

Apart from that, Mijiga promised to increase affiliates’ budget allocation from MK200, 000.00 to MK3 million in a bid to assist the bodies to run their activities smoothly for the development of the country’s soccer.

He promised to set financial base for football as a business whereby players, coaches and administrators will benefit in any penny which might come on the way that after retirement must have standing pension like other professionals.

The Maravi Post caught up with Mijiga on how such financial plans will be materialized regarding to economic challenges the nation is currently going through, saying the nation has enough resources to revive football glory only that insightful leaders was the hiccup.

“FAM gets a lot of money from government, FIFA, cooperate world, SULOM, football game gate collection which could have changed the whole professional for the better. But the challenge lies with the leadership FAM have had for the 15 years which must change for the
better.

“The nation’s football is suffering in the land of plenty. We need a leader who can be transparent to its members on any money transaction for the general public’s trust by publishing all money deals FAM will transact. Therefore, Mijiga is the rightful candidate to change all of that.

“Apart from that, with my leadership all affiliates will get MK3 million each to run their office in developing football on the grass root. On top of that, will make sure that FAM must remain independence in all its activities with a reliable financial base”, pledged Mijiga

Mijiga also emphasized the need for all loving soccer individuals, companies, affiliates start working together as they have one goal to develop Malawian soccer to the heights.

Presence at the press conference including his counterpart Willy Yambwanya Phiri, notable faces the like of Chibowa, Bottoman and Peterkins Kayira, officials from central region football committee and football loving fans from Lilongwe.

The incumbent Walter Nyamilandu is expecting to launch his manifesto on Saturday, December 4 at Capital Hotel before the following evening which he will take part in the FAM Presidential Debate Zodiak Broadcasting Cooperation (ZBS) has organized in a bid to allow the public know what its stock for them in developing football for the better.
