Parliamentary aspirant in Phalombe North-East Constituency, Fatsani Chakwana risks criminal charges on top of disciplinary action from his party, the Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) for influencing youths in the constituency to cause violence and damaging property during the recent party’s Primary Elections.

The aspirant who faced a strong defeat in the Thursday’s primaries, had in the first round of the elections lost 1,254 to 7 votes to the area’s seating Member of Parliament (MP), Emuhiye Dennis Namachekecha.

Independent media investigations indicate that, Chakwana had prior to the day, clandestinely been organising the youth to disrupt the elections once they found that he was losing.

The findings further indicate that, Chakwana had been coaxing the youth by buying them beer for three consecutive days after promising them money if they managed to successfully disrupt the in-house democratic exercise.

After registering the loss, Chakwana rushly left the first elections venue of Mambala Primary School in Mauzi Ward before anybody else to meet a group of youths in Swang’oma Ward.

During the brief meeting, Chakwana is said to have told the youths to go ahead in causing violence by first targeting the MP for area who was coming in a convoy.

As the MP arrived, the youths smashed the side glass of his vehicle, while singing insulting songs against the MP a thing that did not go down well with the multitude of the MP’s supporters.

Afraid that the situation might turn volatile, the presiding officer and the Police deemed it right to suspend the elections.

Meanwhile, there is no immediate communication from the DPP Regional Office for the South on the way forward  following the suspension of elections in Swang’oma Ward.

Fatsani Chakwana was in the 2014 polls defeated in the Peoples’ Party (PP) Primaries and then he resorted to contest on an independent ticket in the Parliamentary elections that saw him taking the fourth position in the race.

The incumbent MP Dennis Namachekecha had in 2014 won on independent ticket but later joined DPP
