DPP Chikwawa Central Shadow MP embroiled in traffic offence after hitting a business lady

By John Saukira

The future of the ruling Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) candidacy Samuel Office for the Chikwawa Central hangs in the balance following his involvement in the traffic  offences.

It is reported that Office while reversing his car on 21 December, 2018 drove and injure Mrs Falamenya who was doing her small scale business.

Mr Office has so far confirmed about the incident saying the incident was one of the usual accidents which happens.

He told our reporters that after the incident he did not take the victim as is the procedure. He said he indeed erred on that one because at that time he was rushing for Primaries.

The Police has since opened the case file for the shadow MP. Experts says car accidents involving pedestrians are traumatic often resulting in death or serious injury. It is advised that when one is involved in such accidents follow some procedures as indicated below.

Stop your vehicle: Do not panic and leave the scene of the accident. If you do so, you will face severe consequences. Pull over safely, and stop your vehicle.

  1. Call for emergency medical help, and render aid: Put your emergency lights on, and help the person in any way you can. Be sure that both of you are out of the way of traffic and in a safe area. If there are witnesses, be sure they stay for a statement.

  1. Exchange information: Again, do not leave the scene of the accident. If the pedestrian is conscious and able, exchange pertinent information (names, phone numbers, and insurance providers) and give your statement to police.

  1. Photograph the scene: Take pictures of any damages and the surrounding area, as well as injuries.

  1. Do not admit fault: Do not admit or imply fault to anyone. This includes apologizing and saying, things like, “I’m sorry!” or “I didn’t see you!”.

  1. Contact an attorney: It is a very good idea to speak with an experienced lawyer who can advise you further. Civil and/or criminal liability is possible, so having a lawyer by your side during this difficult time is important.

  1. Report the incident to your insurance company: You will need to let your insurance company know what happened, usually within 30 days. Your attorney can guide you through the process.
