LILONGWE-(MaraviPost)-The newly appointed National Food Reserve Agency (NFRA) Board Chairperson Dr Bruce Munthali has assured the general public that the agency will meet national food needs.
Dr Munthali made the assurance on Monday, January 19, 2026 after NFRA board members took their oath of office at the agency’s Kanengo headquarters in the capital Lilongwe.
The board chairperson therefore pledged to ensure Malawi’s strategic grain reserves meet national food needs as mandated.
He told The Maravi Post that the board will strengthen storage, management, and distribution systems to prevent shortages across the country.
Munthali added the board will work with the Agricultural Development and Marketing Corporation (ADMARC) and other stakeholders to ensure staple foods are properly stocked nationwide.
Senior government officials, NFRA staff, agricultural stakeholders, media attended the event.
Meanwhile, NRFA has started purchasing maize from local farmers while also receiving imported grain from Zambia to avert the country’s food crisis.
More than four million Malawians are dire need of food.
