LILONGWE-(MaraviPost)-The Parliamentary Committee on Security Chairperson Salim Bagus inquired about the actions taken by Inspector General (IG) of Police Merlin Yolam’s office towards the officers who just torralate thugs hacking people and destroyed properties.

Bagus said the Police are not available when violates is happening and urge the IG to do better.

“You can do better. These issues are being raised in Parliament every day and people are losing trust in your operation,”said Bagus.

One of the members for Rumphi West , Yona Dada Wiza Mkandawire, said that the police office has now become a political entity with several cases not being handled.

Mkandawire claimed that human rights violations are occurring, such as arrests in the north that are being transferred to the central area, which is not good. Furthermore, no one has been arrested for hacking women in area 18.

“The lack of arrests for hacked demonstrators at Mbowe Filling Station during the DPP parade and the destruction of members of Parliament on Parliament premises is a concern for the country’s security.,”said Mkandawire.

Simeon Salambula, the Committee’s Vice Chairperson, requested that the IG safeguard her legacy as the government changes.

Salambula demanded that the police be independent as many cases are handled according to orders from above.

In her remarks, Yollam said that the police are embarking on fresh courses for police officers.

According to her statement, the incidents in Parliament were in violation of the law, and the perpetrators were arrested and released on bail.

On issues of assemblies such as demonstrations that have occurred in the country, the police are always there. When chaos occurs, they use tear gas.

The IG demands public order and encourages people to report any violations that occur when they are not present.

She therefore said social media exaggerates things and there are many police officer transfers that are currently taking place that do not align with the political link.
