LILONGWE-(MaraviPost)-The Malawi Defence Force women’s football outfit, MDF Lioness failed to apply tactics and field craft they train during initial course as they suffered 2-0 in the hands of the bankers on Saturday, April 6, 2024.
Lioness who are the central region Women’s football champions, failed to impress against Silver Strikers ladies in the MK2.5 million Dyna two-day top four Bonanza at Nankhaka Stadium in area 30, Lilongwe.
However, as promised by head coach Andrew Chikhosi during the pre-match interviews that the team would use the Saturday game to revenge the pain and damage, Chikhosi girls suffered in the 2023 Central Region Women’s football championship.
The central bankers drew first blood in the 27th minute through Deborah Henry before Gladys Banda stretched the lead for the area 47 based ladies in the 34th minute in the first half.
The Lioness tried to roar,but nothing materialized as their scouts and assault group ended up firing blanks tili the last whistle.
With the win, Silver Strikers ladies booked a final slot of the bonanza, to date rivals Civil Service Women’s on Sunday from 15:00hours at the same venue, Nankhaka Stadium.
The Servants booked their ticket to the final after smashing Hungry Lions 4-0 through Jessy Yosefe brace, Bernadeter Nyenga and Rose Gondwe’s goals in the first match of the day which kicked-off earlier at 12:00hours.
The Chioko lions will date date Hungry Lions in the third place classification from 12:00hours.
The organiser of the bonanza who is the former Chairperson of D.D Sunshine which produced stars like Chawinga Sisters,Tabitha and Temwa, Anthony Msendema was impressed with the turn up saying he is expecting to see more in the final on Sunday.
“We expect to have exciting games on the final day. The finalists have the same root and each team will want to display and show superiority. Let me urge people to come in large numbers and appreciate the talent and skills we have in our girls”, said Msendema.
Msendema has organized the bonanza to keep the teams in the central region fit a head of the national championship.
“The league closed in December and the girls have been in active hence the bonanza to keep them in shape a head of the national championship. I want them to win national title which has been in the South for two years now”, adds Msendema.
