In a move aimed at sharpening their skills and gaining international exposure, Malawi national team players Patrick Mwaungulu and Lanjesi Nkhoma have secured loan deals with top-tier Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) side, CS Don Bosco.
The duo’s move to the DRC comes as TP Mazembe, their initial destination, is currently serving a FIFA ban.
Despite this setback, Mwaungulu and Nkhoma’s talent and potential caught the attention of CS Don Bosco, who swiftly secured their services.
Mwaungulu, a skilled midfielder, and Nkhoma, a prolific striker, have been instrumental in the Flames’ recent performances.
Their departure is seen as a significant boost to their careers, as they will face stiff competition in the DRC’s top league.
“Patrick and Lanjesi’s move to CS Don Bosco is a fantastic opportunity for them to grow as players,” said Flames coach, Patrick Mabedi. “The DRC league is highly competitive, and this experience will undoubtedly enhance their skills and confidence,” he added.
CS Don Bosco’s Technical Director, Jean-Marc Mulumba, expressed enthusiasm about the signings.
“We are thrilled to welcome Patrick and Lanjesi to our team. Their talent and versatility will undoubtedly strengthen our squad as we push for league success.”
Mwaungulu and Nkhoma’s loan deals are set to run until June 2025, with options for extension.
The move is expected to increase their market value and potentially attract interest from other top clubs across Africa.
The Malawi Football Association (FAM) has welcomed the development, citing the benefits of exposing local talent to international competition.
“This move is a testament to the growth of Malawian football,” said FAM President, Fleetwood Haiya, addiing that, “We are confident that Patrick and Lanjesi will make the most of this opportunity and return to the Flames as improved players.”
As Mwaungulu and Nkhoma embark on their DRC adventure, Malawi football fans eagerly await their progress, hoping their success will inspire a new generation of talent.
