LILONGWE-(MaraviPost)-One of the country’s Human rights activist Chimwemwe Mbeya Ntchindi Mhango has commended President Peter Mutharika over directive for fresh inquiry on Chikangawa Forest plane crash that killed the late Vice President Saulos Chilima and eight others.

Mhango lauded Mutharika for showing commitment towards healing the nation over the tragic incident.

The activist observes that the fresh inquiry will address a number of questions on how the incident happened and negligence that those found behind the incident be taken to task.

“This is the time the nation must know the truth. Malawians expect the truth if indeed the accident was natural or man-made.

“If it was a man-made incident, then those involved be punished according as the nation lost assets”, says Mhango.

He lauds Mutharika, “This is a true definition of insightful leadership that meets promises to the people”.

The activist was reacting to Minister of Justice and Constitutional Affairs Charles Mhango that government will institute a fresh inquiry into the Chikangawa military plane crash that killed former Vice President Saulos Klaus Chilima and eight others in June 2024.

Chilima died in a plane crash on June 10, 2024

Mhango made the announcement in Parliament while presenting a progress report on investigations into the accident, saying earlier inquiries failed to provide conclusive answers on the cause of the tragedy.

“I wish to report that this august House has been pleased to direct that indeed a fresh inquiry and investigation should be carried out into the accident that took place on 10th June 2024,” Mhango told lawmakers.

The minister said his review of reports produced by the Commission of Inquiry and Germany’s Federal Bureau of Aircraft Accident Investigation revealed gaps that weakened the credibility of earlier findings.
