Lilongwe registers 18 road accidents during 2015 Easter

Lilongwe,  April 9: Lilongwe Police says it registered 18 road accidents during this year’s Easter period.

Confirming the development, Lilongwe Police Station Public Relations Officer (PRO) Inspector Kingsley Dandaula said out of the 18 accidents, two were fatal resulting into two people dead.

“The 18 accidents were recorded by Police Traffic Officers who had conducted patrols from the midnight of 02 April 2015 to midnight of 06 April 2015.The accidents claimed two lives,” said the Police Publicist.

 

He said last year at the same time Lilongwe registered two a road accident in which one was fatal.

“Drinking and driving is one of the factors but also other roads in the rural areas are earth roads where motorists and pedestrians do not observe road signs and rules at all,” said the PRO and appealed to motorists and the general public to observe road signs and rules.   
   

Dandaula said despite the big number of accidents in 2015 Lilongwe Traffic Station Officers which include Lingadzi, Kawale, Nathenje, Namitete and Kasiya and the party conducted intensive traffic patrols and traffic checks in all areas within Lilongwe.
