Malawi24 recently conducted an online opinion poll through its Facebook page, aiming to gauge public views on whether President Reverend Lazarus Chakwera should continue leading the country.
The survey followed President Chakwera’s confident declaration during the opening of the Trade Fair in Blantyre, where he claimed he had already secured victory in the upcoming presidential election scheduled for September 16 this year.
A total of around 14,000 people participated in the poll, offering insight into the prevailing public mood.
The results showed that the majority—11,337 respondents—believe that Chakwera should not remain in power.
This translates to 81% of participants opposing his continued leadership.
On the other hand, 1,739 people expressed support for Chakwera’s presidency, representing just 13% of those polled.
Another 737 individuals indicated that they were undecided or had no opinion on the matter.
These results suggest that President Chakwera may face an uphill battle in the upcoming election, as public confidence in his leadership appears to be waning.
