Lilongwe, January 14: Late Sergeant Trouble Muotcha who died in the line of duty after his duty station at Area 23 Police Station was petrol bombed early Monday morning will be buried Wednesday.

Muotcha died at Kamuzu Central Hospital where he was taken after sustaining serious burn injuries.

Speaking with Mana on Monday Lilongwe Police Station Public Relations Officer Kingsley Dandaula said the incident happened around 1:00 AM when a group of ten people sought assistance from the police unit only to attack the Officer in charge who was attending to them.

”It is indeed true that the incident happened earlier this morning. A group of over ten people dressed in military attire comprising green T-shirts and camouflage trousers attacked Officer in Charge Sergeant Trouble Muotcha who was attending to them. Officers on duty came to rescue Muotcha only to have a petrol bomb thrown at them before the group kidnapped the Officer in Charge,” said Dandaula.

According to Dandaula, residents around the unit who were awaken by the commotion at the unit mobilised themselves to put out the fire and search for the kidnapped officer.

”Members of the community rescued four suspects who were trapped in holding cells at the unit before putting out the fire. The search party found Muotcha in a maize field nearby but with a broken arm and several deep cuts in the head,” said Dandaula.

Muotcha was rushed to Kamuzu Central Hospital where he was admitted to the Intensive Care Unit.

Meanwhile the police have intensified a man hunt for the suspects who were armed with panga knives.
