Dowa’s Alifonso Braiwel commits suicide after told he did not father 5th child

Man commits suicide

BLANTYRE-(MaraviPost)-A 40-year-old Alifonso Braiwel in Mponela,Dowa has hanged himself after picking a quarreled with his wife.

The incident occurred on October 23, 2022 at Tsamkanga village in the district.

Mponela Police Station Public Relations Officer Sergeant Macpatson Msadala said Braiwel was married and had five children.

In 2019, he developed a mental illness of which he was still receiving treatment.

So, on October 22 at around 8 o’clock after a drinking spree, he picked a quarrel with his wife who claimed their fifth born is not his.

In reaction, Braiwel took a hoe handle, hit his wife on the head and run away.

Neighbours searched for him throughout the night to no avail.

On October 23, 2022 they started looking for him again only to find his clothes behind his mother’s kitchen and later discovered him hanging dead inside the kitchen.

The matter was reported to the village headman who notified Madisi Police Unit.

A Medical Assistant from Mponela Rural Hospital viewed the body and confirmed death to be due to suffocation, secondary to strangulation.

The late Braiwel hailed from Tsamkanga village, Traditional Authority (TA) Chakhaza in Dowa District
