MZUZU-(MaraviPost)–The Mzuzu high court has on Thursday granted an injunction to a group of three Civil Society Organizations (CSOs) and one concern citizen restricting the Agriculture Minister George Chaponda from continuing with his duties in order to pave way for the investigation in the K26 billion maize-gate scandal.
Led by the Mzuzu based activist Charles Kajoloweka, the concerned CSOs argued that the commissioners’ investigation on the matter may be jeopardized if Chaponda continue holding the position.
“Some of the commissioners are juniors to the agriculture minister as they are civil servants, so it will be difficult for the Minister to be investigated,” argued Kajoloweka and the CSOs.
However, government through the Attorney General Kalekeni Kaphale vowed to challenge the order in the court.
Kaphale said there are some fundamental errors in the making of the ruling.
However, effort to talk to Chaponda proved futile.
Meanwhile, ADMARC boss Foster Mulumbe has been sent to force leave to pave way for the investigation
