Malawi Finance Minister Mlusu announces MK4,495 per 50kg, free tax band at MK100,000

LILONGWE-(MaraviPost)-The newly appointed Minister of Finance Felix Mlusu on Tuesday, June 30, 2020 announced cheap prices for farm inputs at MK4,495.00 per 50 kilogram of fertilizer to all Malawians.

The Finance Minister Mlusu also announced MK100,000.00 tax free band for civil servants from MK45,000.00

The Minister was making maiden budget resolution in Malawi Parliament for the next three months before the actual 2020/2021 fiscal year is fully developed in September 2020.

Mlusu also told the parliament that the ministry will engage stakeholders on proposed minimum wage from MK35,000.00 to MK50,000.00.

The minister disclosed that government will borrow MK209.5 billion in the provision budget.

He added that all smallholder farmers (3.5 million) will access the cheap fertilizer whereby each farmer will be allowed to by the input at-least two bags.

In his remarks, Joseph Mwanamveka Democratic Progressive Party (DPP)’s finance spokesperson in Parliament lauded the provision budget for better Malawi.

Mwanamveka assured of total support of the implementation of the provision budget.

The announcement fulfills Dr. Lazarus Chakwera and Dr. Saulos Chilima promises during campaign ahead of fresh presidential elections.

Chakwera won the polls beating Peter Mutharika of DPP with 58.5% in total votes.
