BLANTYRE-(MaraviPost)—Minister of Trade Sosten Gwengwe has assured Malawi Mangoes Operations Limited, the first large-scale commercial fruit farming and processing enterprise based in Salima, of unwavering support from the Lazarus Chakwera led government by creating a conducive environment for their business to thrive.
Gwengwe who is also Member of Parliament for Lilongwe Msozi North made the assurance on Monday when he visited Malawi Mangoes Operations Limited farm and processing plant in Salima.
He reiterated that government will continue creating a conducive environment for investors so as to make their businesses operate without obstacles since it is the desire of the current president Chakwera to graduate from importing to an exporting country.
Gwengwe, running-mate to former president Joyce Banda during the 2014 Tripartite Elections, said government will continue supporting the private sector in identifying market access opportunities for Malawian products.
He further congratulated the company for generating over 43 million US dollars since its inception.
Malawi Mangoes General Manager Charlie Leaper said he expects to maintain good working relationship with government.
Established in 2009, MM is a value based agro-processing business working with local communities in Salima to grow and process fruit using modern food processing machines.
The land MM is currently managing is under a land tenure arrangement with the Malawi Government, through the Green Belt Initiative and the local community.
The firm exports its puree to reputable companies such as Coca-Cola, Pepsi and Ceres, among others.
