“Malawi has three months maize stock cover”-assures Agriculture Minister Lowe

Lowe: Malawi has enough maize

LILONGWE-(MaraviPost)-The country’s state sole agriculture produces Agriculture Development Market Corporation (ADMARC) has has total supply of 1,693,997 Metric Tones of maize requirement covering three months (January to March, 2022)

Minister of Agriculture Lobin Lowe assured the news conference on Monday, January 10, 2022 that government projected at 861 868 metric tones leaving the country with the total domestic cereal surplus of 915 998 Metric tones Of the projected surplus of about 767 129 metric tones

Lowe said the reported maize surplus is not stock under the custody of government only comprises of stocks
held by different stakeholders including farmers and private traders.

He said out of this estimated maize surplus, official maize stocks held by government institutions (National
Food Reserve Agency-(NFRA) and ADMARC Limited) stood at 265,253 metric tones as December 31, 2021.
