Malawi heading towards ending freebies as National Library introduces user feesBLANTYRE-(MaraviPost)—Malawians will start paying user fees in exchange of accessibility to the National Library Service (NLS) in the country.One of the NLS branches in Blantyre has already announced its user fees which will be introduced with effect from July 1, 2016.

According to a statement by the NLS Blantyre branch, adults who want to access the library’s services will have to pay K100 while children will be paying K150.

“This is to notify our valued clients that with effect from 01 July, daily library user fee will be introduced as follows: adults: K100 children: K50,” said the library in a statement.

The fees will be paid in addition to other services charges which the library says remain unchanged.

The development comes as the debate on whether people should pay fee to access hospital services, a move which has attracted mixed reactions.
