Malawi media body condemns assault on Ufulu FM journalist Macmillan Mozeyo

Macmillan Mozeyo of Ufulu FM who was attacked by unidentified people in Chikwawa

BLANTYRE-(MaraviPost)-MISA Malawi has condemned the assault of a journalist, Macmillan Mozeyo of Ufulu FM who was attacked by unidentified people in Chikwawa.

According to the press statement issued and signed by its Chairperson Theresa Ndanga on Thursday, April 23, 2020, Mozeyo was assaulted by four men just few metres away from his house on the night of Wednesday, April 22, 2020.

The victim revealed that the attackers accused him of damaging the imagine of government based on the story he wrote concerning a COVID-19 patient who was complaining about how he has been handled by health officials since he received his results.

Mozeyo reported the matter to police after sustaining a cut on the forehead and he has received medical treatment following the incident.

MISA Malawi has therefore asked the general population to respect the rights of journalists in the country as such incidents creates fear in
journalists.

The media institute has also petitioned police to thoroughly investigate the matter and bring the attackers to face the law.
