The Technical Entrepreneurial Vocational and Education Training Authority (TEVETA) has challenged the media to champion articles on skills development as one way of promoting employment among youths in the country.

TEVETA Executive Director Wilson Makulumiza Nkhoma made the call on Friday at Grand Palace Hotel in Mzuzu during a day long interaction with members of Nyika Media Club (NMC) on their technical skills programmes that the institution is undertaking in their various technical colleges.

Speaking in an interview on the sideline of the interaction Makulumiza Nkhoma, said as government looks to priotize vocational skills development among youths it is vital that the media also did their part by among others embracing technical skills development in their publications.

He said, due to their outreach through various platforms the media can play a big role in unearthing success stories from students who had undertaking the vocational training skills who were making a living from their skills that they acquired thus reducing unemployment.

Due to the increase of demand of enrollment of our various technical skills programmes we believe the media are crucial towards the continued success of the various technical vocational skills that we are offering hence the interaction,” he explained.

In his remarks NMC Project Officer Alex Banda, while expressing graditude to TEVETA for the interaction challenged fellow Journalists to broaden up their horizon in their news gathering and embrace vocational skills reporting.

“As NMC we do not take this partnership for granted hence we express our gratitude to TEVETA for in lighting our members drawn from all the six districts in the north with knowledge on technical and vocational skills programmes hence urge members to put in practice the knowledge that they have learnt,” articulated Banda.

Established in 1999 TEVETA currently has an enrollment of about 6000 students in various technical colleges across the country.
