Malawi Minister of Health has contingency plans for Flood Victims on ARV treatment

Lilongwe, February 9, 2015: The Ministry of Health has assured of total support to all Anti Retrial Viral Treatment (ARV) flood victims.

This comes amid outcry from other flood victims on the ARV treatment staying in the camps that the floods have interrupted their ARV treatment in the sense that they do not have places where they can go to get the medication.

 

Further the people claimed the floods also washed away their health passport books leaving them at a disadvantaged situation.

In an interview with Malawi News Agency (Mana), Ministry of Health Public Relations Officer (PRO), Henry Chimbali said Government was aware of the problem and a lot has and is being done to address the people’s concerns.

Said Chimbali; “We know and anticipate this challenge, and health workers are on the ground to address this issue.

“The last time we went with the ministry to the sites, we were happy to be informed that a large number of people on long term treatment are getting their medication.”

According to the ministry of heath publicist since it is a large group, the efforts to assist everyone is ongoing.

“As of now, the ministry has assisted many people and we are looking forward to assist more people as this is an ongoing effort since it is a large number of people that need to be assisted,” he said.

Floods have affected 15 districts of Malawi, Chinkhwawa and Nsanje, Mulanje, Phalombe, Karonga, Blantyre, Rumphi, Mangochi, Zomba, Balaka, among others leaving hundreds of people dead and thousand others homeless.
