Malawi reporter compares Mchinji’s security woes to that of Bengazi as business man is gunned down

Mchinji is slowly turning into Libya’s Bengazi where killing each other is not a problem.

Robbers on Saturday, shot and killed a business man in central region border district of Mchinji
just a week after Malawi President Peter Mutharika assurance to investors that his government will provide maximum security on their businesses.

Minister of Trade Honourable Joseph Mwanamveka had urged Journalist to refrain from reporting issues of insecurity that he claimed will demote their interest of investors to invest in the country.

Mr. Izex Chimala of Mikundi Trading Centre narrated that the robbers went to Sulamoyo Salimu who was popularly known as Muna 1 at around 1 Am and entered into his house.

While there, the thugs demanded cash but Sulamoyo as denied to release the money thugs to shot him dead.

Chimala said the Deceased identified one of the robbers upon mentioning his name,“Why are you doing these things as my best friend” the robbers responded by shooting him where he died on the spot.

“ We believed one of the Robbers were from within the district so they shot Sulamoyo to avoid to be reported to Police.” Chimala said.

Mr. Chimala also accused some chiefs who led closure of the police unit in the area because of the disagreement which was between the police and the communities over their conduct.

Chimala said, “If there was a police unit which was closed last year this thing could not have happened,”

Mchinji Police Public Relations Officer Sub- Inspector, Moses Kajawa Nyirenda confirmed on the development by saying they have launched investigation to arrest the robbers who have shot dead Mr. Sulamoyo Salimu.

Sub- Inspector Nyirenda said robbers have since run away with K320,000.00.

“We will arrest them and they will face the law because we believe they are within the district so we will use any means to arrest them and will answer murder charges”. Nyirenda said.

But Nyirenda ask the chief who led to removal of the police unit in the area to discuss their disagreement so that the police unit can return.

Late Sulamoyo Salimu aged 35 hailed from Maole village in the area of traditional authority Mduwa in Mchinji District but he was doing business at Mikundi Trading Centre in the same district.

Postmortem at Mchinji District Hospital revealed that late Sulamoyo died due to loss of blood during the incident.
