The Ntcheu First Grade Magistrate on Thursday, September 3, 2014 convicted two Mozambican men to 14 years Imprisonment with Hard Labor (IHL) for defiling a 12 year old girl.

Hastings Chigalu, Ntcheu Police Station Deputy Public Relation Officer confirmed to The Maravi Post the conviction of Thomoson Dzonzi 25 and Chimwemwe Lomao, 21 upon Magistrate Jones Masula found them guilty.

Chigalu said the court heard that the two together with the third suspect who is still at large committed the offence on July 26, 2015 when they defiled the standard three school girl in a roll (one after the other) at Mapira village around 18:00 hours.

“The victims met the fate on way to her cousin’s house. There were three in total but the other suspect is still at large. After the incident, the matter was reported to the police who referred the parents’ victim to Ntcheu District hospital where defilement was confirmed.

“The police went flat out in arresting the two while the search for the other ranges on. The two appeared in court as Prosecutor Amos Jobo led the state in parading witness against the convicts.

“Upon hearing the case, Magistrate Jones Masula found the two guilty of defilement which is contrary to section 138 of the Penal Code. Although they pleaded for leniency for being first offenders and that they were bread winners, the court sentenced them to 14 years as their actions did not only destroy the girl’s virginity, but also traumatized, an experience which will go along way in her entire life.

“This is a sigh of relief to us and the entire community since cases of defilement and rape are being registered highly each passing week. The police will continue safeguarding the rights of children especially young girls who are in danger currently”, assures Chigalu.

Both Thamoson Dzonzi and Chimwemwe Lomao hail from Mthawira village in Traditional Authority (T.A) Majawa in Villa Ulongwe, Mozambique.
