LILONGWE-(MaraviPost)-An 18-year-old girl identified as Edith Khembo, has died after being assaulted by her biological mother for being in a love affair in area 36, Katantha location in Lilongwe.
Hastings Chigalu, Lilongwe Police Public Relations Officer told The Maravi Post that on Wednesday, December 8, 2021 at around 16:00 hours, the suspect, Linda Makhambera, 43, took her daughter Edith (now deceased) into her house, locked the doors and started assaulting her.
“Then soon after the assault, the mother ordered Edith to go and take a cold bath, a thing she complied.However, just when she was coming out of the bathroom, Edith collapsed.
The suspect then called her brother to take Edith to hospital, lying to him that Edith has fallen ill.Unfortunately, Edith was pronounced dead upon arrival at Kamuzu Central Hospital,” says Chigalu.
He added, “Postmortem results from the said hospital revealed that death was due to Cardiogenic Shock, secondary to assault”
Meanwhile, the suspect is still at large since she got the news of her daughter’s demise.
Both, the suspect and Edith (deceased) hail from Kadwala Village, Traditional Authority (T.A) Ganya in Ntcheu District.
