In strive to improve girl education standards in the country, the Save the Children organization has hooked 76 married girls back school who dropout due to early marriages.
Speaking during the meeting, one of the officials from the organization Frank Mwafulirwa said the war was done in collaboration with other partners such as Youth Net and Counseling (YONECO), social welfare as well as education departments among others.

According to Mwafulirwa, the figure is part of 300 girls who were withdrawn from marriages.
“Of course it was not easy to convince both parents and the couple but the good news is that we have managed to withdraw 300 girls from marriages.”
He said “what we are fighting now is to make sure that the remains 224 girls should also go back to school and we believe that we will manage.”
Mwafulirwa also disclosed that different by-laws have been formulated in order to deal with the malpractice in the future.
In her remarks, former national netball team player Mary Shaba who the role model at the events said encouraged girls to desist from pressure things and continue with their education saying “everything is possible.”
“Let me share you my background especially when I was of your age. I personally did not allow anybody or anything to affect my education,” said Shaba.
“Despite I was good at netball but I stick to my education and as I am speaking, I have good education back ground apart from netball issue,” she added.
Shaba therefore asked girls in the country to work had with their education in order to become self-reliant whether in marriage.
Cases of early marriages are rampant in the country due to poverty and some cultural belief.
