Malawi tax body recovers seven vehicles from Mukhito’s residence

MZUZU-(MaraviPost)-Malawi Revenue Authority (MRA) on Thursday, July 30, 2020 conducted a search and detained seven vehicles from the former Chief of Staff residence at the State House, Peter Mukhito, for tax invasion.

According to a press statement MRA released on Thursday, the detention follows a tip the institution received from members of the general public.

The detained motor vehicles that are currently being kept at MRA’s offices pending further investigations, are Toyota Land Cruiser (VX8), Registration Number BW 6060, Range Rover without a number plate, Toyota Land Cruiser (VX8), without a number plate, Mercedes Benz, Registration Number CPM 2, VW Passat, Registration Number CP 7074, Toyota Fortuner, Registration Number MH 950 and Bentry, Registration Number FW16 LS-GP.

Meanwhile, MRA is calling upon members of the general public with any information on tax invasion to share with it through Tip-Offs Anonymous Line 847 or submit tips to any MRA Office across the country.

Earlier this week, the former Mukhito, the former Inspector General (IG) of Police, was summoned by Police to answer questions bordering on 400, 000 bags of cement which former Head of State, Arthur Peter Mutharika, purchased from Zambia and Zimbabwe tax free.
