MZUZU-(MaraviPost)-Artists in the music industry have welcomed news of establishment of a 3000 plus capacity Entertainment Park which has not yet officially been opened in Mzuzu but it is scheduled to be opened on February 14 with a Valentine gig.

The park situated behind Grand Palace Hotel also has a 35 by 55 meters platform. The park has been being used with other entertainment activities such as cocktails, shows and others.

It is a brain child of Swag Entertainment Company (SEC), an entertainment company to promote music in the northern region.

In an interview with Maravi Post, Lilongwe based hip-hop artist Phyzix [real name Noel Chikoleka] said having a new entertainment park in the city is a good development considering the fact that the region does not have many entertainment centers.

“This is very exciting news; Mzuzu is a growing city full of people looking to have good fun at polite places and this will also help artist to frequent the city without fears of colliding with others on same venues,” Said Phyzix.

Gwamba said he was looking forward to having a performance at the yet to be opened park.

Mzuzu based Afro and R’N’B artist Gremmar [real name Christopher Chiwambo] said the establishment of the park is a welcome development because it will help boost the growth of the music industry in the region.

“As an artist from the north, I feel the presence of this park is an opportunity for artists here to take advantage of.

“In the past we have had challenges of space but with the 3000 plus park I believe we will be able to hold shows that will have huge patronage without fear of congestion,” he said.

Dzaleka Youth Congress Founder, Alain Bitijula based at Dzaleka Refugee Camp said the park will help lure artists from other regions to come and perform in the city.

“The platform will put the city on the map and attract them to the region.

“This is a place where different artists can have a chance to demonstrate different talents and co-exist and I must say that we at Dzaleka are excited with the news and look forward to performing at the park,” Alain said.

According to Skeffa Chimoto said the 3000 plus capacity sounds so big for him.

“3000 plus capacity sounds so big for me and I would say that’s a welcome development.

“Sometimes we have problems with the venues battling with other functions, now the coming of this means quiet a lot to me,” Skeffa said.

Skeffa further advised that ‘Chiyambi chimaphweka koma kupitiliza nkomwe kumavuta anthu ambiri’ (It is easy to come up with an activity but very hard to pursue it).

In a separate interview with, SEC Chief Executive Officer, Francis Mkandawire said the event venue will mostly take entertainment shows and weddings because it’s a garden setting.

“It’s a place where we want a lot of artist’s to be given a platform to showcase their talents. So this place will highly build confidence and expose Mzuzu artists in general,” Mkandawire explained.

He further said the event is a double celebration for the north and the nation at large.

“It will be something that we should be proud of to start with; Mzuzu will be well represented through the newly built park that will allow artists across the country to host their shows here in the northern region,” Mkandawire said.

This will be the first time for the northern region based music company to own an entertainment park is to accommodate music shows and corporate functions among others.
