BLANTYRE-(MaraviPost)-One of the renowned business magnets in the country, Dr. Napoleon Dzombe, says the country’s economic development strategies could be successful if only Malawians desist from the culture of depending on handouts.
Speaking in an interview on Thursday, August 31, 2023, in Blantyre during the wealth creation conference organized by Sycamore Consult Limited, Dr. Dzombe emphasized that no country could develop economically because of handouts.
Dr. Dzombe, however, urged the youth to develop a hard-working spirit to desist from the culture of depending on handouts.
“Over the years, the country’s economic development strategies have been moving at a snail’s pace due to the culture of depending on handouts. People stopped working hard to generate wealth on their own but relied on handouts from other countries. This is very sad,” he said.
According to Dr. Dzombe, the perpetrators of handouts corrupt the minds of the recipients so that they remain poor.
“Our dependence on handouts over the years should now teach us a lesson. We now need to change our minds and start doing things differently,” said Dzombe
In a separate interview, the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) for Sycamore Consult Limited, Audrey Mwala, advised Malawians to start diversifying strategies of investing in long-term projects as compared to short-term ones.
Mwala said that notable successful business people all over the world invested in long-term projects to reap huge benefits.
“Investment is a long-term process that needs patience, courage, and endurance. This is not a field of lazy-minded people who can easily give up or those who want huge benefits in a short time,” she said
According to Mwala, her company thought of bringing different local business tycoons together on the ground to share experiences with the participants to develop the culture of wealth creation in the country.
“There has been so much talk on planning and theoretical approach towards wealth creation in the country. However, we thought of now of using the face-to-face talk approach, ” she said
Mwala said since her company started programs of wealth creation in the country in 2019, the number of
Entrepreneurs have gone significantly
