Malawi’s Anglican Church suspends renegade members

MZUZU-(MaraviPost)-The Anglican Diocese of Upper Shire has excommunicated some of its members until such a time when, by God’s grace, they will be restored.

In a statement released on 20th September and signed by the Diocesan Bishop, the Right Reverend Brighton Vita Malasa, the excommunication is with emmidiate effect.

According to the statement, some notable members who have been excommunicated include: Macdonald Njala Banda, Elliot Litereko, Will Madi, Franscis Samaliya Chipala, John Alexander Mchakama, Mphatso Macdonald Bango and many other.

It is not clear when these members will be restored to the church.

Apparently,  there are 41 parishes in the Diocese and only five support him 36 are against him.

All these parishes  are led by St George parish in Zomba where most of the excommunicated members come from.

Last year, some members of the church held a vigil at the church’s Headquarters at Chilema, Malosa in Zomba where they wanted the Diocesan Bishop to be relieved of his duties for gross maladministration of the church.
