KARONGA-(MaraviPost)-Foundation for Community and Support Services (FOCUSS) has underscored the importance of imparting knowledge on corruption to school going pupils at an early age saying the vice is key in Malawi becoming a free corrupt nation.
The call was made on Wednesday during the official unveiling of KAFA Ubundu Academy at Kaporo in the area of Senior Traditional Authority (T.A) Kilupula that has seen FOCUSS partner Kaporo Foundation for Rural Development to revamp and resuscitate the institution.
In an interview following the launch Board Chair for FOCUSS, Alfred Mwenefumbo said if the country is to realize its full potential of economic growth and development it is vital that young pupils are taken on board in the fight against corruption by having subjects which specifically focus on corruption in schools.
“Just as the name ubundu implies, ubundu talks of a man or woman of integrity, of truthfulness, of faithfulness and honesty and that is the product that we want and that we should be aiming to produce as far as the country is concerned hence the importance of imparting knowledge to the pupils on the evils of corruption,” he said.
In a separate interview Director for KAFA Kenson Malnga, hailed the partnership that they have made with FOCUSS.
Saying as a result of the partnership the institution has undergone a renaissance that will see the once popular institution capture its lost glory.
In his remarks Karonga District Council Chair who presided over the launch, Councilor Belliam Msukwa, expressed delight in the partnership in as far as the promotion of education standards in the district.
“As a council we express our gratitude to these two organizations for teaming up as experience has shown us that the district has lacked a quality private school that can live up to the standards of education that we expect.
“This partnership is a game changer for the district in the issues of providing quality education as FOCUSS are also sponsoring needy students in our various universities who some will work at this institution thereby uplifting standards of education that our citizens want and deserve,” Msukwa explained.
KAFA Ubundu Academy was opened in 1993 and currently has an enrollment of over 100 students both boulders and day scholars.
