Confirming the development on Tuesday, September 13, 2022 ACB Principle Public Relations Officer Egrita Ndala, said the arrest has come about following a complaint that the bureau received in 2020 alleging that the suspects pocketed K2.4 million from market venders to allocate them spaces within the central business premises in the district.

The three nabbed Councilors are Smart Mwakayira Councilor for Rukulu Ward, Steve Simsokwe Councilor for Chilanga Ward and Ngasalayumo Mwangonde Councilor for Kaporo Ward.

“Yes we can confirm that we have arrested the three Ward Councilors following a complaint that we received that the Councilors were illegally and in procedurally selling public land.

“Following the investigations that we conducted we established that the Councilors received money from the market venders in order for them to be allocated land without the knowledge of the council,” she said.

Adding that the suspects will be taken to court soon to learn of their charges after carrying out interviews with them.
