Kamwendo bows out of football..itches for coaching

BLANTYRE-(MaraviPost)-Be Forward Wanderers Football Club prolific midfielder, Joseph ‘Shakira’ Kamwendo has announced his plans to shelve active football and concentrate on coaching prospects.

Kamwendo, 34, says he also considered giving up his Jersey 10 at Lali Lubani Road so as to create space for younger stars to get chances to expose themselves.

“After my return from South Africa, I said enough is enough. Let me get out of the show and allow younger guys to display their talents,” said the former Flames talisman.

Kamwendo who discovered a career in football early 2000, has played for Be Forward Wanderers FC here at home, Orlando Pirates FC in South Africa, TP Mazembe FC in Democratic Republic of Congo and Caps United in Zimbabwe, at the continental level. At one point, he secured an opportunity to play in Denmark.

Meanwhile, Kamwendo is coaching Walter Nyamilandu’s Football Academy and he is also a Technical Assistant at Wanderers Reserve Side.

Commenting on Kamwendo’s decision to join football coaching, Be Forward Wanderers FC Chairperson, Gift Mkandawire, said the Club has been grooming Kamwendo for higher positions in the industry.

“I have always discussed with Kamwendo on coaching prospects but since everything goes according to time, this is now his time to seriously venture into coaching,” said Mkandawire.

Kamwendo holds a CAF C licence in his coaching career.

    The star.

    In an instant

    appears near
