Many Malawians see a double standard in HRDC’s outcries for Justice

2 Min Read

Headlines screamed Police and protesters clashed in three cities in Malawi during countrywide demonstrations over the disputed result of last month’s presidential election. Thousands of opposition supporters participated in the demonstrations in the capital, Lilongwe, demanding the immediate resignation of Malawi Electoral Commission chairperson Jane Ansah.

During these violent demos  police officers were severely injured after being beaten up minutes after an armored vehicle threatened the protesters at Capital Hill, cars were torched and stores were looted, police woman was stripped naked and yet Mtambo never cried foul, he never uttered a word of apology to the police or to the vendors whose properties were destroyed.

Estimates said Malawians suffered K20 billion in losses as a result of HRDC’s violence, However Mtambo and his cohorts never offered to reimburse the vendors and you want to talk about Mayaya’s rights and justice?

Women were stripped naked by HRDC’s, UTM and MCP supported violent demonstrators without apologies from Mtambo, and you want to talk about Mayaya’s rights?

A Police officers had his houses burnt down, you remained silent, but today you want to talk about Mayaya’s rights?

Malawi’s HRDC member Billy Mayaya hacked prior to demos in Blantyre

Ambulances and government offices were torched by HRDC demonstrators, you were silent, but today you want to talk about Mayaya’s rights?

Two children were killed in Mponela by HRDC demonstrators, you were silent, but today you want to talk about Mayaya’s rights?

Schools were destroyed by HRDC demonstrators, leaving children stranded, you were silent, but today you want to talk about Mayaya’s rights?

Pilirani Mzunga was beaten to unconsciousness by MCP thugs in Blantyre. Up to now she cannot speak properly; you were silent, but today you want to talk about Mayaya’s rights?

The only Malawians with rights are HRDC, not the rest of the Malawians who suffered K20 billion in loses, who suffered physical and emotional damage as a result of violent demonstrations?

Enough is Enough with this double standard. HRDC and its leaders deserve the same treatment that they have afforded Malawians during these demonstrations that have started to lose steam because of the pain and loss they have inflicted on poor Malawians.
