Maravi Post’ Senior Sports Reporter Edwin Mbewe stands tall in 2025 Chipiku Central Region Media Awards

LILONGWE-(MaraviPost)-The 2025 Chipiku Central Region Awards lit up Lilongwe on Friday, February 20,2026 night with glamour, pride and celebration but it was digital journalism that stole the show as Maravi Post’s Edwin Mbewe was crowned Best Online Reporter in the Chipiku Premier Division.

In an era where online platforms shape conversations in real time, Mbewe’s recognition highlighted the growing influence of credible digital storytelling in Malawi’s football landscape.

His consistent, accurate and engaging coverage has made him a trusted voice among football followers in the Central Region.

The colourful ceremony brought together sports journalists, team representatives, football lovers and the President of the Football Association of Malawi, Fleetwood Haiya, celebrating excellence both on and off the pitch.

The awards honoured players, referees and media practitioners who have elevated the Chipiku Premier Division to new heights 2025 season.

Speaking after receiving the accolade, an emotional Mbewe expressed gratitude and humility.

“I’m excited to have won this for the season. I don’t take it for granted. I thank God for His mercies and guidance,” he said.

He further thanked the Central Region Football Association (CRFA) for recognising his efforts, acknowledging the stiff competition among reporters covering the league.

“We are so many who cover the league, but to emerge the best among the group is by the grace of God and hard work. To my fellow reporters who didn’t make it this season let’s push harder in the coming season. There is always one winner per category at a time,” he added.

Mbewe’s victory signals a shift in how online journalism is increasingly being recognised alongside traditional platforms such as radio, television and print.

In other media categories, James Kalimba of Mthunthama FM won Best Community Radio Reporter, Foster Maulidi of MBC scooped Best TV Reporter, Kondwani Kandiado of NPL was named Best Print Reporter, while Sam Banda of ZBS claimed Best Radio Reporter.

On the pitch, Gregory Mwase of Extreme FC had a night to remember, walking away with both the Golden Boot after netting 34 goals and the prestigious Player of the Season award.

Blue Eagles Reserve emerged as champions, with Extreme finishing as runners up, while Shire Wimbe shared third place honours. Santhe ADMARC settled for fourth position.

Refereeing excellence was also recognised, with Gastain Chambalo named Best Referee, assisted by Usher Salanje (Best First Assistant Referee) and Tsogolani Chirwa (Best Second Assistant Referee).

Adding to his growing list of achievements, Mbewe also triumphed in the 2025 Central Region Mpico Gateway Mall Netball League, further cementing his reputation as a dominant force in sports reporting.
