BLANTYRE-(MaraviPost)-Minister of high Education Jessie Kabwila, has demanded MK500 million in compensation from Blantyre City South East Member of Parliament, Sameer Suleman, for allegedly insulting her physical appearance during a Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) rally in Bangwe, Blantyre.

According to Kabwila’s lawyer, George Jivason Kadzipatike, Suleman’s comments were disparaging and damaging to her reputation.

Kabwila has given Suleman seven days to settle the amount, failing which she will pursue the matter in court.

This news comes amid Suleman’s recent court appearances.

On June 13, 2025, Suleman appeared at the Blantyre Magistrate’s Court to face formal charges following his surrender to the police.

He was later granted bail under strict conditions, including a K500,000 cash bond and a non-cash surety bond worth K2 million.

Suleman is required to report to the South West Police Headquarters monthly and has been instructed to surrender his travel documents to prevent international travel until the case is resolved.

Kabwila’s demand for compensation has sparked interest in the public and media, with many awaiting Suleman’s response to the allegations.
