BLANTYRE-(MaraviPost)-A Mozambican national, Benzamm Dinemzyi, has been sentenced to six years imprisonment by the Milandu Magistrate Court in Phalombe.

He was found guilty of breaking into a woman’s house and stealing two mobile phones along with other property.

The case was heard before Second Grade Magistrate Caroline Nthenda.

In delivering the judgment, Magistrate Nthenda emphasised that the sentence was meant to serve as a strong deterrent.

She stated that the punishment aims to teach others a lesson and discourage similar criminal behaviour in the community.

The court’s decision reflects the judiciary’s commitment to upholding the law and protecting property rights in Malawi.

Authorities and community members have welcomed the ruling, noting that strict penalties are necessary to maintain safety and order.

This case highlights the ongoing efforts by law enforcement and the judiciary to address cross-border crime and burglary in the country.

Benzamm Dinemzyi will serve his sentence at the designated correctional facility in Phalombe.

The judgment serves as a reminder that criminal acts, including theft and burglary, are met with serious consequences under Malawian law.
