BLANTYRE-(MaraviPost)-Mulli Brothers group of companies has brushed away an allegation that government awarded the entity a contract to supply maize to Strategic Grain Reserves through back door.
Group of companies managing director Leston Mulli said this at his business head office in Blantyre during a press briefing answering accusations from concerned business people who recently stormed and caused commotion at National Food Reserve Agency offices demanding an explanation on why the company rendered a contract to supply maize.
The managing director explained that for an entity to get a tender of supply has to undergo formal procedures evaluated by the World Bank.
” I circulated a document appeared in our daily papers articulating shortlisted companies successfully complied with terms and conditions under Agricultural Commercialization Malawi project (AGRICOM)” the manager explained.
“We have local farms and others in Mozambique,so we produce alot of farm produce,a few of it we bought from local traders at agreed price and not directly from Farmers hence we have abundant stock of maize in our warehouses,” Mulli claimed.
“To bid,there are alot required to be done like registration,illustrating availability of consignment, experience, price of commodity supplied so our contract is not a fake one” he adds.
The ministry of Agriculture and Food security is the line ministry and on 24th April 2020 issued a document shortlisting five companies to supply maize such as Jimat Enterprise, Zik investments, Good investment, Mwambande lnvestment, and Express Global supplies.
