KAMPALA-(MaraviPost)-Bobi Wine, the prominent Ugandan opposition leader, has taken to his Facebook page to express his distress and frustration, writing: “I am not free.
My home is still under siege, and the criminal regime is trying to hunt me down.”
This statement comes amidst a wave of arrests and abductions targeting his team, with three out of his four Deputy Presidents currently detained or missing.
The situation has sparked widespread concern and outrage, with many calling for the immediate release of the detained officials.
Dr. Lina Zedriga Waru, Bobi Wine’s Deputy President for Northern Uganda, is still missing, having been abducted from her home on January 15th.
Her whereabouts remain unknown, and her family and supporters are growing increasingly anxious.
Hon. Jolly Jacklyn Tukamushaba, Deputy President for Western Uganda, is also missing, having been abducted from Rukiga District on January 14th.
The circumstances surrounding her disappearance are unclear, and efforts to locate her are ongoing.
Hon. Muwanga Kivumbi, Deputy President for Central Region, was arrested today and is currently being held at Kira Division Police.
The reasons behind his arrest are not yet known, but it is believed to be linked to his involvement with Bobi Wine’s opposition movement.
As the persecution intensifies, Bobi Wine has urged his supporters to remain rooted in hope and faith, saying: “May be remain rooted in hope and faith, that our struggle – the Ugandan struggle – will end in victory.”
The hashtag #FreeUgandaNow has begun trending, with many calling for international attention and support.
The situation in Uganda remains volatile, with reports of opposition supporters being targeted and intimidated.
The international community has yet to comment on the developments but human rights groups are urging authorities to respect the rights of all citizens and to release those detained arbitrarily.
