LILONGWE-(MaraviPost)-President Peter Mutharika has reaffirmed commitment to supporting regional and continental integration efforts aimed at improving the lives of our people and creating opportunities for inclusive growth and shared prosperity.
President Mutharika made assurance at Kamuzu Palace on Monday, May 18, 2026 after receiving Letters of Credence from Ambassador Hilda Suka Mafudze, Representative-Designate of the African Union Southern Africa Regional Office with residence in Malawi.
The Malawi leader observes, “The Republic of Malawi values its strong bonds with the African Union, and with AU-SARO in particular. These bonds have been further strengthened today by your accreditation.
“Malawi therefore remains committed to supporting regional and continental integration efforts aimed at improving the lives of our people and creating opportunities for inclusive growth and shared prosperity”.
Mutharika adds further, “We are encouraged by the African Union’s Agenda 2063 and reaffirm our readiness to contribute meaningfully towards “The Africa We Want.”
“We have localized the continental vision through Malawi 2063, a national aspiration to become an industrialized, upper-middle-income country by 2063”.
The President assures, “As you assume your responsibilities in this region, be assured of the full cooperation and support of the Government and people of Malawi in the execution of your duties.
“I am confident that your tenure will further strengthen the cordial relations between Malawi and the African Union in the following priority sectors: agriculture and food security; climate change mitigation; trade and investment; education and capacity building; and peace and security”.
Mutharika assures further, “I firmly believe that the African Union stands as a cornerstone for our continent’s collective advancement, providing not only a framework for shared growth but also a dynamic platform to unlock socioeconomic opportunities that empower our youth.
“Through unity of purpose, coordinated policies, and a spirit of solidarity, the African Union enables us to harness our vast resources, strengthen regional integration, and ensure that the next generation inherits a continent defined by progress, innovation, and hope”.
In her remarks, Mafudze expressed gratitude for warmly welcome to Malawi.
She therefore assured Mutharika of total support towards regional integration.
