LILONGWE-(MaraviPost)-President Peter Mutharika has reaffirmed strong diplomatic bond with Luxembourg.
Mutharika made the commitment on Monday, February 2, 2026 after meeting Luxembourg Deputy Prime Minister, Xavier Bettel at Kamuzu Palace in the capital Lilongwe.
The meeting underscored the strong bonds of friendship and cooperation between the two nations.
President Mutharika expressed deep appreciation for the visit, describing it as a powerful demonstration of Luxembourg’s commitment to strengthening bilateral ties.
He reaffirmed Malawi’s dedication to deepening this partnership, particularly as both countries prepare for the signing of a General Cooperation Agreement on Tuesday, a milestone expected to broaden collaboration across multiple sectors.

Outlining his vision for Malawi’s economic transformation, President Mutharika emphasized the shift from a predominantly importing and consuming economy to one that produces and exports.
The Malawi leader therefore noted that immediate challenges in food, fertilizer, foreign exchange, and fuel are being addressed, while efforts continue to stabilize the economy, reduce inflation, and lower interest rates.
“I therefore invite you and Luxembourg investors to set up companies in Malawi, the country has conducive environment for investment.”
He pointed to Malawi’s peace, hardworking and welleducated labor force, and supportive policies as key advantages for business growth.
Mutharika therefore extended best wishes to Luxembourg in its candidature for a nonpermanent seat on the United Nations Security Council.
He also shared that Malawi currently chairs the Peace and Security Organ of the SADC Troika and is on course to join the African Union Peace and Security Council, reflecting the country’s growing role in regional peace and stability.
For his part, Luxembourg Deputy Prime Minister, Xavier Bettel congratulated President Mutharika on his electoral victory, noting the rare level of support and trust he has earned.
Bettel expressed strong interest in working closely with Malawi to help realize the President’s vision for national transformation.
