Mutharika’s charm offensive continued with US Assistant Secretary of State for Africa Ambassador Jackson

LILONGWE, Malawi – 11 April 2015(MaraviPost) :President of the Republic of Malawi H.E. Prof. Arthur Peter Mutharika on Friday received in audience Ambassador Robert Jackson, the United States of America Assistant Secretary of State for Africa. 

According to information from Malawi statehouse, Ambassador Jackson is on a tour of a few African countries including Malawi.

 

 

Prof. Arthur Peter Mutharika said he was particularly excited to host Ambassador Jackson because of the long and cordial relations that continue to exist between Malawi and the US.

 

Continuing with his courting of the United States the Malawi President Prophesized cooperation with the US as he sees the relationship benefitting Malawi economically, politically and socially.

 

The Malawi President was honest to admit that most of the US initiatives have touched lives of so many Malawians including those in rural areas.

 

“I have in mind for example the Peace Corps Volunteers that continue to come to Malawi to treat our sick in hospitals, to educate our children in schools and work in many other sectors. I look at the AGOA initiative which I appealed that it should be extended and many others” said President Peter Mutharika.

 

 

H.E. Prof. Arthur Peter Mutharika said in his discussions, he informed Ambassador Jackson of the progress his administration has made following the first ever US-Africa leaders’ summit which somehow moved his government to undergo a major rethink considering the revelations of how much as a country Malawi was losing out on investment opportunities.

 

 

President Peter Mutharika informed the Secretary of the investment compendium which his government formulated immediately after the summit whereat was noted are over 200 hundred bankable investments projects that foreign and local investors could exploit to help in transforming Malawi’s economy.

 

The Malawi President also said he appealed to the US government through Ambassador Jackson to consider reviewing the market quota of Malawi tobacco in the US to give Malawi’s ‘Green Gold’ more market access.

 

Mutharika was confident that the steps his administration has taken since the US-Africa summit should have made a positive impression with the Barack Obama administration. The President also thought bold steps his government has undertaken in the Public Service reform agenda and the Public Finance Management Reforms should be viewed positively in the US – MaraviPost
