For many families, the dream of a seamless, relaxing holiday can seem out of reach, especially when a loved one has neurodiverse conditions such as autism, ADHD, or Pathological Demand Avoidance (PDA). But Diedrich Brand, founder of NeuroDiverse Travel Co., knows that with the right planning, these dream trips are possible.
Inspired by his own son’s ADHD and PDA diagnosis, Brand has designed travel experiences where families can finally explore and enjoy quality time together.
“I started NeuroDiverse Travel Co. in 2024 after discovering that my son has ADHD and PDA,” Brand says. “On a 14-day tour through Namibia, we began noticing his distress around the 10th night.”
“He became agitated and didn’t enjoy the experience. After his diagnosis and learning more about neurodiverse conditions, we were inspired to create holidays that truly work for families like ours, where everyone can have a good time.”
According to studies by the International Board of Credentialing and Continuing Education Standards (IBCCES), 87% of families with autistic children avoid holidays due to a lack of resources, fear of judgement, or insufficient support. Brand’s company exists to bridge that gap, offering not only travel opportunities but also trust.

Designing Travel with Neurodiverse Needs in Mind
At NeuroDiverse Travel Co., every detail is carefully considered. Before a journey begins, families complete a questionnaire to share preferences, sensitivities, and routines, from light sensitivity in hotel rooms to restaurant choices and desired activities, which is then incorporated into a personalised trip.
“We aim to listen and understand,” Brand emphasises. “We want our guests to experience a holiday for the first time without the anxiety or overstimulation that traditional tours can unintentionally cause.”
From quiet spaces during sightseeing to carefully planned itineraries and hotels, the company’s trained guides ensure seamless inclusion. Brand, who also serves as a tour operator and guide, insists that flexibility is essential. Guests are welcome to join or leave the tour on selected dates within the programme, allowing families to tailor their experiences according to comfort and energy levels.
The Cape Town Experience
Brand has organised a NeuroDiverse trip from 22 March to 8 April 2026, which he hopes will become an annual event.
The journey starts and ends in Cape Town. Every element is customised for travellers with neurodiverse conditions. There will also be a range of cultural and nature-based activities.
“Neurodiverse travel isn’t just about making trips accessible; it’s about creating moments that will stay with them forever. We want our guests to feel they can trust us, and that every moment has been planned for their comfort and happiness.”
