LAGOS-(MaraviPost)-Secondary School pupil, 12, of Simple Faith Schools has died after being flogged by a teacher when he went to school on Thursday, May 12, 2022 with uncompleted homework.

The victim’s father, Akinola Amidu, said his son started vomiting shortly after the beating and was rushed to Lagos University Teaching Hospital where he died while receiving treatment.

Amidu said his son had no any health issue before he left home going to school on the morning of Thursday.

He added that he was surprised when he received a call from the management of the school with a report that his son was vomiting.

PUNCH quoted Amidu saying: “I was called by the management of the school that Emmanuel was vomiting. Meanwhile, this was a boy who left home without any health issue. I had to go to the school and we moved him to a hospital.

“I later learnt that the whole thing started after their class teacher, Mr Steven, beat the whole of his class for not completing their mathematics assignment. How can somebody just die from vomiting if nothing triggers it? The management of the school is trying to protect the teacher”.

He added that the management of the school quickly ran to the Morogbo Police Station at Agbara to report that the 12-year-old died from vomiting.

Commenting on the matter, the school Principal, Adetayo Akanji described the incident as unfortunate.

He added that the teacher flogged the whole class for not doing their sums and few hours later, the victim placed his head on his desk and started vomiting before water was poured on his head.

The father to the victim has demanded the arrest and prosecution of the suspect. He has reportedly petitioned the state government and the police to probe into the incident and give the family justice.

In 2020, another secondary school pupil died after a teacher in Isawo, in the Ikorodu area of Lagos, flogged him to death over the student’s inability to answer a question in class.
