
TAWARI-(MaraviPost)-At least 19 people have died in Tawari community, Local Government of Kogi State, Nigeria after gunmen invade and attacked the whole community on Thursday night.
The Public Relations Officer of the Kogi State Police Command, Mr Williams Anya confirmed the incident this morning.
According to the eye witnesses, about 100 gunmen with motorcycles stormed the community on Thursday night around 11:15pm while villagers were sleeping and burnt selected houses, including homes of clerics.
One of the survivors of the attack, Mrs Comfort Solomon has been quoted by the Punch News saying: “They entered selected houses, packed foodstuff and motorcycles and burnt selected houses, including homes of clerics.
They killed more than 15 men. The attackers were communicating with each other in Hausa language”.
Commenting on the incident, Chief Idris Yusuf of Tawari community expressed shock in the tragedy. He had said this is the first time his community experienced such a deadly attack as it has always been peaceful.
