Liverpool’s quest for a seventh European crown has received a major boost after the Opta Supercomputer tipped the Reds as favourites to win this season’s UEFA Champions League.
The data driven prediction has placed Liverpool side at the top of the continental pecking order, giving them a 20.4 percent chance of lifting the prestigious trophy in May 2026.
The forecast comes just days before Liverpool begin their Champions League campaign and it has ignited excitement among fans who believe their side is primed to dominate both domestically and in Europe.
Liverpool team are in scintillating form, having won last season’s Premier League title and strengthened their squad during the summer transfer window with several key signings.
While Liverpool lead the pack they are closely trailed by Arsenal, who the Supercomputer has given a 16 percent chance of winning the competition.
The Gunners, who reached the semi finals last season have been steadily building a squad capable of challenging Europe’s elite and are seen as England’s second best hope of bringing the trophy back home.
Defending champions Paris Saint-Germain are third favourites with 12.1 percent, as they aim to defend the crown they captured last season after years of near misses.
Other heavyweights are also in the mix. Manchester City and Barcelona are tied with 8.4 percent each both boasting squads filled with world class talent and proven European experience.
Chelsea sit slightly behind with 7 percent while Real Madrid, the most successful team in Champions League history, are seventh favourites with 5.8 percent.
Bayern Munich round out the top eight with 4.3 percent showing just how competitive this year’s tournament is expected to be.
Liverpool’s position as favourites is no coincidence. Their dominance in the Premier League last season demonstrated their consistency, tactical brilliance and depth.
The Reds also benefited from a favourable group stage draw, avoiding a “group of death” scenario that has plagued them in previous years. This provides them with a clearer path to the knockout stages, provided they maintain focus and form.
Additionally, Liverpool’s rich European history with six Champions League titles already in their cabinet gives them the kind of pedigree and experience that often proves decisive in the latter stages of the tournament.
The supercomputer’s prediction also underlines how unpredictable the competition can be. Even with a 20.4 percent probability, there is still nearly an 80 percent chance Liverpool will not win the title, emphasizing the fine margins that define success and failure in Europe.
Arsenal, PSG, Manchester City and others are all equipped to challenge and clubs like Barcelona and Real Madrid remain dangerous dark horses, capable of derailing even the best-prepared sides.
For Liverpool, this season presents a historic opportunity. Winning a seventh Champions League title would see them equal AC Milan’s tally and move them just behind Real Madrid, who sit at the top with 15.
