The elections took place in Lilongwe during its Annual General Meeting(AGM).

The AGM started by a statement from the out going chair Cecilia Sambakusi which was followed by financial statement from John Ndaferankhande.

After the financial report, Pharmacy , Medicines and Poisonous Board Registrar Mr Kadewere came in with remarks as well before going to recess.

Soon after the recess, Professor Lutz from College of medicine and John Mponda from Central Medical Stores gave their presentations, which were followed by elections.

During the elections, the delegates voted in Enock Foster who faced toe to toe with Josaya Mayani who fetched 11 votes, as President while the same delegates voted John Mponda as his Vice.

The delegates also elected Josiah Mayani as Secretary while Mary Zulu Vice was voted as his vice chair.

Speaking soon after the polls the new President promised to promote ideologies and objectives of the Phasom.

Foster urged pharmacists to be professional all the time when executing their duties.

Malawi has embarked on government reforms to make the health sector tick.

Document from the Ministry of health indicate that the first thing that government wants to do is to make all Central Hospitals autonomous and independent so that they have independent oversight bodies in form of Board of directors.

The second thing that government wants to do is to have the management of District Health Services separated from the Management of District Hospitals.

Meanwhile health commentators have commended Phasom for the peaceful elections.
